High Country Horses - Glenorchy
High Country Horses has over 100,000 acres of back country to ride on exclusively. They cover the Dart Valley, Paradise Valley and Rees Valley. Offering rides from one hour through to four days and the only company to offer this.
Deana and her late husband Duayne have owned the business since 2004 starting with a garage shed and 8 horses, now they have a very big area to ride in and have over 95 horses to choose from covering variety of breeds. With two home bases, they can offer a huge variety of riding.
Note: weight limit for riders on all rides is 95kg, child age range is 7-14yrs.
Rees River Trail (2.5 hours)
A beautiful ride which will take clients across farmland and out onto the Rees River. This ride is more about the riding experience. Clients will experience River Crossings and have a chance to try some faster work with their trusty steeds. Showcasing the Glenorchy Basin. Great for novice through to experienced riders.
Mountain High, River Deep (Full day)
Our full day option is incredible and is suited to experienced riders only, it will be catered to the client’s ability and also the type of terrain and riding they wish to experience. With 100,000 acres to choose from the options are endless.
Includes transfers and Lunch.
Around the Mountain (2-day / 1 night)
A ride that is done nowhere else in the world. Ride the full circumference of a mountain. Two days/one night. You will cover the Dart Valley and come out on the second day via the Paradise Valley. Experience the highest elevation ride done in the whole of the Queenstown/Glenorchy Basins. Good level of fitness is required. Includes transfers/ all meals/ accommodation/ and horses. Small groups of 5, min of 2 required. Call for availability, (availability must then be confirmed by upper management) this trek has a more involved booking process that requires clients to fill out a questionnaire.
Rees River Pro
For Experienced riders only, this trek showcases parts of the Rees Valley not covered by our Rees River Trail trek. It will be a 2-3 hour experience and priced at $230.00 for self drivers and $250.00 including our bus transfer from Queenstown, this trek is still in the making… so watch this space!
